       Also, in current research trials, an anti-B Cell agent, Rituximab, has been shown to have similar benefit. The production of autoantibody, rheumatoid factor, is the most constant immunologic perturbation found in rheumatoid arthritis patients, and the rheumatoid joint produces and contains huge quantities of immunoglobulin. A B-cell depleting agent would attack the source of immune aggregates and rheumatoid factor.
       These trials have been inspired by research emphasizing a B-cell centric and joint centric mechanism for the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.
