       Shown here are CD8 positive CTL within a joint that recognize HLA-B27 both in the context of bacteria infected target cells with bacterial derived peptide, as well as simply HLA-B27 positive target cells with only endogenous peptides.
       The CTL method of killing is illustrated. Specific recognition of a peptide MHC complex on a target cell by a CTL results in T cell signaling, which leads to release of preformed granules by the cell onto the target cell. Death by apoptosis ensues.
