The production of cytotoxic T-cells is shown from dendritic cell activation to entry into the lymph node and initial contact with T-cells.

The dendritic cell has been influenced by the cytokines produced in the innate immune response as well as by contact with the organism. The cell becomes activated and matures. In addition to synthesizing co-stimulatory molecules and more MHC proteins, the cell is prompted to migrate from the submucosa, by way of the lymphatic vessel, to secondary lymph tissue, i.e. a lymph node.
At the lymph node, naive T cells arrive by high endothelial venules (HEV) and utilize their TCR to scan the antigen presenting cells. If the T cell does not recognize a peptide, then it leaves the lymph node via the efferent lymph vessel.
When a peptide MHC trimolecular complex is recognized by the TCR, and the appropriate co-stimulatory signals are also generated, the transduced signals will ultimately lead to T cell activation, proliferation, and maturation.
