Movie: Monoclonal treatment of RA by blocking the CD4 molecule on T cells. 790.000 bytes.
There are several monoclonal antibodies used for the treatment of RA and SLE. This movie depicts the targeting of the CD4 molecule on the T cell by a monoclonal antibody. One purposed mode of action for these agent is preventing the TCR triggering by steric hinderance of peptide presentation of APCs to T cells.
Movie: Human TNF receptor treatment of RA by "sopping up" TNF. 245,174 bytes.
Several currently investigated treatments for autoimmune disase work by interfering with the cytokine network. One of the most interesting is the agent shown here which genetically combines two TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) human receptors with the Fc portion of an antibody. This animation depicts a macrophage secreting TNF and the human "fusion agent" in action.
Movie: White cells leave the blood vessel and enter the site of inflammation. 745,174 bytes.
The results of the 3 inflammatory events described above are shown.
