#3. What is the cause of Ankylosing spondylitis? No pathogen has been identified which is commonly accepted as the cause of Ankylosing spondylitis. However, in a related arthritis, the reactive arthrititis, the disease can be induced by infections with certain gram negative facultative intracellular bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella and Yersinia. This family of arthritis also share the common HLA class I allele of HLA-B27. |
