" Rheumatology Overview: Images and Animations in Arthritis and Rheumatism" was initially made as a DVD handout for the second year medical students in pathophysiology of disease at U.C.L.A. in 2003. The material on Spondyloarthropathies comes from a presentation given with Dr. David T. Y. Yu, M.D. at the Carl Pearson Conference in 2002.  Dr. Yu was my mentor during my fellowship in Rheumatology at U.C.L.A. and I spent three exciting years working with him in his lab.
As the lead off speaker for the course on Rheumatology for the medical school class from 1995 to 2009, my hope had been to rapidly stimulate the student's interest in Rheumatology and to prepare them for the lectures that followed mine. At a single viewing, it's an overwhelming amount of information to digest, and so I always provided an extensive handout to review later after my lecture; first as a colored printout, then as interactive CDROM (1998 to 2002), and then as a DVD, and finally as a URL to this website. On the website, flash was very important in regards to presentation.
As of this writing in November, 2011, it's come to my attention that Adobe intends to no longer support Flash in browsers. The good news is that HTML now has evolved to HTML5 which seems to offer a lot of promise.  The reasons for the decision  by the powers that be to go down this path is that it is best if no single vendor owns the rights to a pervasive technology. I think that is a good thing?     But, I've been using flash a long time, so I'm going to keep on using it as well.
